Exhibition at Gallery Kungerkiez in Neukölln from April 5 to April 25.
PhotoSurreal was founded as a group in the summer of 2025 and is dedicated exclusively to non-realistic representation.
There can be many reasons for wanting to free one’s own perspective from “reality” (which, as we know, is different for everyone). In the simplest case: I want to convey the mood that a subject evoked in me. Or: I don’t like reality and want to propose an alternative. Or: I find the repetitive nature of things boring and simply want variety. Or: Reality may appear harmless, yet it has darker undercurrents that I want to make visible.
Fortunately, the camera itself is not bound to what is given: the techniques used to create transformation and distortion are diverse and can be applied either during the act of shooting or in post-production. They may involve exposure, filters, or compositing, each producing different effects. The exhibition provides an overview of the wide range of possibilities—across studio photography and outdoor work, from macro to wide-angle, from still lifes to cityscapes and street scenes.
For PhotoSurreal, Facets is the first joint exhibition — and we look forward to further invitations…
